The religious group – Active African Christians United Movement (AACUM) is planning to file a class action lawsuit against the government regarding the cholera outbreak that claimed the lives of 31 people, 29 from Gauteng and one each from the Free State and Mpumalanga.

AACOM leader, Advocate MoAfrica Maile said the organisation plans to file the court papers next week and they are confident that they have a strong case in respect of more than 100 families from the Hammanskraal community.

“The current phase of the class action on Hammanskraal is at an advanced stage. There was a lot of work that had to be done on the historical research because this matter began in 2004.

“We are filing a case next week because almost 90% of the drafting has been done with the legal team that we have. We are hoping with the kind of case and approach we are taking legally, that definitely there has to be a victory and justice will be served for the people of Hammanskraal.

The government is yet to determine the source of the cholera outbreak and at last reported that the investigations are still continuing.
