ActionSA has unveiled a new service delivery tracker specifically for the City of Tshwane. This innovative tool aims to empower residents by providing a systematic way to monitor the successes and shortcomings of the multiparty coalition administration, which is currently led by Mayor Nasiphi Moya.
At a media briefing held in Pretoria on Tuesday, ActionSA’s national chairperson, Michael Beaumont, articulated the party’s intentions behind the tracker. Beaumont stressed that the initiative is not only a means to report on service delivery but also a decisive step in combating misinformation surrounding the coalition government. “As a government, ActionSA wants to be held accountable,” he asserted. “We don’t want to operate in an environment where we simply engage with our voters once every five years.”
This sentiment reflects a growing trend among political parties in South Africa, and ActionSA is keen on fostering a continuous dialogue with citizens. Beaumont expressed the belief that regular engagement is critical, stating, “We believe there must be a continuous process and it starts with doing what this Government of National Unity (GNU) has not done, which is defining your priorities, codifying how they should be measured, and putting it out there to South Africans and civil society so they can hold you accountable against those standards.”
The party’s initiative follows the successful launch of a similar app that was created to track the performance of the GNU. With this latest addition tailored to Tshwane, ActionSA aims to present a clear picture of service delivery metrics, making it easier for residents to understand what is being done and where improvements are necessary.
