After being in limbo for almost eight years and following several postponements of its elective conference, the ANC Women’s League has finally nominated a leadership structure with Sisisi Tolashe at the helm.
Tolashe, who is a Deputy Minister in the Presidency pipped former Social Development Minister and former L President Bathabile Dlamini to the post by 1 729 to 170 votes at the ANCWL’s 13the Elective Conference held over three days in Nasrec Expo, Joburg.
Former Member of the National Assembly Lungi Gcabashe was elected as the new
Deputy President beating Bernice Swarts and the Deputy National Council of Provinces (NCOP) Chairperson Sylvia Lucas.
The new Secretary General position went to Nokuthula Nqaba. She was contesting Lydia Moroane-Zitha, and Weziwe Tikana-Gxothiwe.
Former Minister of Communication Dina Pule defeated Makoma Makhurupetje, Winnie Ngwenya and Johanna Aphiri to become Deputy Secretary General. She previously served as the Minister of Communications under former President Jacob Zuma between 2011 and 2013.
The Free State’s MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae who was the fundraiser for the National Task Team, is the Treasurer General beating Manketsi Tlhape from North West.
The league will finalise additional members who will be part of the ANCWL’s member national executive committee.
