Amapiano star Mpho Lebajoa, popularly known as Scotts Maphuma, sought to publicly apologise after criticism about his attitude towards fans.
He publicly admitted that he does not like taking pictures with fans especially if he doesn’t feel like it, nor entertaining them on stage and his utterances were met with mixed reactions.
While some sympathised with his plea of being granted some space and to be treated like an ordinary citizen, some were offended and took things as far as ignoring him during his live performances.
Numerous videos have been circulating on social media where the crowd can be seen giving the artist a cold shoulder.
Just few days after standing by his words, Maphuma finally decided to mend the relationship with his fans.
“I want to take a moment to sincerely apologise to all my supporters. I’ve let some of you down, and I take full responsibility. Growth comes with owning your mistakes, and I am committed to doing better for myself and you. Thank you for believing in me,” Scotts wrote on his X account.
The apology was met with some praise from his industry colleagues by the likes of Makhadzi, Black Coffee and Oskido, who believe the move was necessary and humble.
Although some of his fans expressed appreciation that he is owning up to his faults, some continue to troll him and believe he must experience a cancelled culture, so he can value his supporters more.
Ahead of his apology, Maphuma had refuted claims of having a bad attitude and requested to be treated like an ordinary person outside of his work as he believes celebrities also deserve privacy.
Apart from the drama and controversy that transpired, Maphuma caught Mzansi’s attention and ears with his catchy hooks on songs that quickly became popular, including Wishi Wishi, Shayi’Moto and Madlamini amongst others.
