The South African football fraternity continues to mourn Amazulu striker Bonginkosi Ntuli, who sadly passed away at a Pietermaritzburg hospital on Sunday aged 32.
The heartbreaking and shocking news were confirmed by the Durban club on their official X account, revealing that the striker had only been ill for a short period of time after he was recently diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.
Ntuli will be laid to rest on Thursday.
“The funeral service for our dearly loved Bonginkosi Ntuli will be held at The African Congregational Church in Cliffdale on Thursday, the 9th of November from 10am,” wrote the club on their official X account.
Ntuli’s memorial service was held at the club’s home ground of Moses Mabhida Stadium on Wednesday.
‘Mdeva’ as Ntuli was affectionately known began his career at the lower division club Sobantu Shooting Stars in 2011 before moving to Golden Arrows’ reserve side, he later cemented place in the clubs first team, in 2014, before joining Mamelodi Sundowns.
His Sundowns journey only lasted one season, and he was then loaned to Platinum Stars and AmaZulu respectively.
Usuthu eventually signed the 1.8m tall attacker on a permanent deal in 2019.
The Premier Soccer League said a moment of silence in honour of Ntuli will be observed before the start of every Premiership, Motsepe Foundation Championship and DStv Diski Challenge fixture this week.
