The African National Congress (ANC) is in mourning following the death of long-serving member Dikgang Moiloa, who passed away on Saturday. Known affectionately as ‘Uhuru,’ meaning ‘freedom’ in Swahili, Moiloa’s commitment to public service and community advancement has left an indelible mark on South African politics and society.

Moiloa was a prominent member of the Gauteng Legislature, serving in a variety of key portfolios throughout his career. His contributions were not only recognised by the party but also by the constituents who benefited from his tireless efforts towards human settlement reforms and local governance. As chairperson of Committees and later as deputy speaker, he played a critical role in legislative processes, advocating for the needs of the people he represented.

The African National Congress bows its banners in deep respect as we mourn the passing of Comrade Dikgang ‘Uhuru’ Moiloa, a devoted revolutionary, a selfless leader, and a servant of the people.

His tenure as MEC for Human Settlements and Local Government further exemplified his dedication to uplifting communities, as he worked diligently to improve living conditions and ensure equitable access to housing for all residents in Gauteng. Moiloa’s vision extended beyond mere political success; it was rooted in a profound commitment to the values of dignity, justice, and service.

In a statement released following his passing, the ANC expressed its commitment to honouring Moiloa’s legacy. The party reaffirmed its resolve to continue the struggle for dignity and justice on behalf of South Africans, embodying the principles for which Moiloa fought throughout his life. His impact as a leader, an advocate for the people, and a dedicated member of the ANC will be remembered by those he inspired.
