The ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa has identified the 2024 National General Elections as the most difficult one the ruling party will ever have to contest since it took power in 1994.

Ramaphosa was speaking in Mahikeng in the North West where he led the ANC’s National Working Committee (NWC) and called on members to put aside internal differences to focus on securing victory.

He said despite its many failures, the ANC remains popular with many who still believe it is the right party to govern the country.

“Many of our people still love the ANC, even here in this province. The presence of so many of our branch members means that the people still have a great deal of confidence and faith in the ANC. We are in fact seeing more and more people saying we have trust in the ANC to address the challenges that we are facing.

“So our program that has brought us here to the North West is a continuation of what took us to Limpopo and Kwa-Zulu Natal and this is part of the renewal process. And this is also part of getting our structures throughout the country to gear themselves to be ready for next year’s general elections,” Ramaphosa said.

The party’s North West executive has been struggling to establish unity and Ramaphosa called on members to give the structure a chance.

“The leadership that has been elected is in place to carry out the programs of the ANC, and we are saying that everyone must rally behind the elected leaders, as we are doing at a national level. And we always say the culture and the traditions we have in the ANC are that once the leadership is elected. We all rally behind that leadership, whether we agreed with them or contested them or not,” he said.

The ANC has recently started holding its NWC meetings in provinces in a bid to reconnect with communities ahead of the much anticipated 2024 general elections.
