The ANC Youth League (ANCYL) President Collen Malatji and Secretary General Mntuwoxolo Ngudle have been instructed to withdraw letters of suspension issued against each. The intervention came after a meeting held between the ANC Secretary General, Fikile Mbalula, and the National Executive Committee of the ANCYL where the league outlined the challenges it had recently confronted and the steps it undertook to address them.“The meeting resolved that all suspension letters issued in relation to the matter be immediately withdrawn. It is agreed that the Secretary General of the ANCYL Mntuwoxolo Ngudle will issue a public apology as part of restoring unity and organisational discipline,” read a statement from the ANC.South Africa woke up to a series of letters of suspension, with both leaders Malatji and Ngudle suspending each other from the league in what seemed like a tug of war to hang-on to the power ahead of the league’s 27th National Congress to be held next month.It is reported that the fallout between the two youth league leaders started at the ANCYL General Council which was held in Kimberley in September after Malatji called for an early elective conference, which was approved by the party.The apparent rift was allegedly exacerbated by exclusion of both Ngudle and the league’s Treasurer General Zwelo Masilela from a meeting discussing preparations of the congress, planned for 14 to 17 December 2025 at the University of Limpopo.Sources within the ANCYL have alleged that Ngudle is against an early conference as he fears he will be removed since he doesn’t enjoy much support such as Malatji who is optimistic that he will secure a second term vote.“The ANC has commended its youth league for demonstrating organisational discipline, maturity and unity of purpose by resolving these matters internally and responsibly. Their conduct reflects a renewed culture of accountability and collective leadership that strengthens both the ANCYL and the broader movement,” explained the statement.The party has expressed confidence in the league’s leadership as they continue to play a decisive role in championing youth development, advancing the struggles of young people, and contributing to the renewal and reconstruction of the movement.“We call on all members and leaders of the ANCYL to give maximum attention to ensuring the successful convening of the 27th National Congress, from 14 to 17 December 2025, at the University of Limpopo.We are assured that the ANCYL will continue to mobilise the energy, creativity and activism of young people in the service of social transformation. The organisation reaffirms its commitment to supporting the ANCYL,” concluded the statement.
