Jack Buthelezi, a close friend of accused number 2 Bongani Ntanzi made a u-turn shortly after telling the court that Ntanzi confessed to him that he killed Bafana Bafana captain, Senzo Meyiwa in 2014. The defence lawyers in the Senzo Meyiwa murder case have asked for a day’s postponement to prepare after they received a statement from one of the witnesses very late. Defence lawyer, Zandile Mshololo said unlike other statements the one under review was not made available to them at the beginning of the trial. “The statement of this witness was not furnished to the defense before the trial started. The firearm used to kill Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa was stolen during a cash in transit robbery at a shopping center in Rabie Ridge in 2013, the legislation manager at SBV, Pieter Smut confirmed this when he was giving evidence in the North Gauteng High Court as the state tries to build a case against the five men on trial for the killing of Meyiwa. The cross examination of the ballistic expert in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, Christian Mangena, has been temporarily halted until the defence lawyers have consulted with their own expert. Mangena took the stand in the North Gauteng High Court where the trial against five men accused of killing Meyiwa was postponed overnight for a new witness to be called. Ballistic expert, Lieutenant Colonel Christian Mangena said it is possible for the bullet that pierced the chest of Orlando Pirates goalkeeper, Senzo Meyiwa and exited through the back to have no blood because he was shot at close range. Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa “probably would have survived seconds or minutes definitely not hours” after sustaining the deadly gunshot wound.
