The pressure group Operation Dudula is crying foul after failing to submit heads of argument in the Johannesburg High Court in a case that may see it grounded permanently. Operation Dudula Treasurer and self-proclaimed founder Solomon Kruger Kekana desperately tried to convince the court to postpone the matter, claiming not to have been aware that the case was being heard on Tuesday. The case was brought by NGO, Kopanang Africa Against Xenophobia (KAAX) which accuses Operation Dudula of harassing and abusing immigrants. The executive mayors of Johannesburg and Tshwane have laughed off reports that DA Federal Chairperson Helen Zille could become the party’s mayoral candidate for the City of Joburg in the next local government elections. The two held a joint media briefing in Pretoria ahead the Africa Africa Mayors Assembly and U20 Sherpa Meeting scheduled for later this week and were asked for comments on Zille’s reported candidacy carried by several publications on Sunday. The latest to find herself having to fight back is City Manager at the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality Imogen Mashazi, who has been placed on ‘special leave’ just a few months before her retirement. The Gauteng provincial government multi stakeholder initiative is showing signs of early success. The City of Joburg has vowed to reclaim patches of land that have been turned into illegal dumping sites to convert them into public amenities. The KleenaJoburg 100 sites campaign was launched by mayor Dada Morero at Senwana, Soweto in a park that was initially a dumping site right in the middle of the township. Floyd Shivambu has been removed as the Secretary General of uMkhonto weSizwe (MKP) just a few months into the position. MKP announced the decision at a media briefing in Durban on Tuesday stating that it follows a meeting of officials with party leader Jacob Zuma, the former president of South Africa.
