The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has appointed South Africa’s Sheryl Botes as the new coach for the Senior Women’s football team, the Crested Cranes. Confederation of African Football Instructor of Instructors, Botes has signed a three-year contract, ending in 2026. SuperSport United has confirmed that their former player and Zimbabwe goalkeeper George Chigova has passed away. The 32-year-old was diagnosed with heart problems in July, and has not played for the club since. The Independent Electoral Commission, IEC, said it is all systems go for this weekend voter registration process. This will be the first of the envisaged two weekends that the commission hopes to conduct ahead of next year’s national and provincial elections. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled nominees for various women’s categories for the 2023 CAF Awards. After announcing the nominees for the male’s categories last week, CAF revealed the shortlists for the women’s awards, which are set to be hosted in Marrakech, Morocco, on 11 December. Banyana Banyana and Mamelodi Sundowns players and coaches respectively have been recognised for their outstanding efforts and achievements over the last year. The Senzo Meyiwa murder trial’s day has been shortened as a result of the submission of more car tracking evidence. The court has been hearing testimony from one of the investigators, Sergeant Vusumuzi Mogane, on the movements made as he escorted accused, Bongani Ntanzi. Due to assertions made by Ntanzi that stops were made en route to the Moroka Police Station, where he alleges to have been beaten and suffocated, Mogane was reexamined regarding the data. Mop up operations are underway in various parts of the City of Joburg, following last night’s hailstorm that hit the city and other parts of the metro. The hailstorm left a trail of destruction mostly in areas like Rosebank, Paulshof, Midrand, Braamfontein, Marlboro and most parts of Johannesburg. The Congress of the People, COPE, has terminated the membership of its councillors, Joburg Council Speaker Colleen Makhubele and Ofentse Moalusi, at the City of Tshwane respectively. This after the two allegedly joined the recently formed South African Rainbow Alliance, SARA. According to their twitter account, SARA is a coalition of small parties and religious organisations which will campaign under one banner during next year’s elections. The coalition is founded by the African Amalgamated Restorative Movement, ICM, COPE, National Freedom Party and Churches. On Sunday, pro-Palestinian protesters disrupted a pro-Israel demonstration at Sea Point. A group of counter-protesters for Palestine were dispersed with stun grenades and water cannons after the police dispersed buses of Israel-supporting protesters. Protesters and police in riot gear engaged in a standoff. Before either protest began, there was a heavy police presence, including city law enforcement officers and SAPS officers. A total of four people were arrested and charged with public violence. In support of the Palestinians, thousands of people protested on Saturday, but no clashes were reported. Mamelodi Sundowns were crowned champions of the inaugural African Football League (AFL) after thrashing Wydad Athletic Club 2-0 at Loftus Versfeld on Sunday afternoon.
