At least 42 people have been killed in a horrific bus crash on the N1 north near Louis Trichardt in Limpopo early on Monday morning. Preliminary reports indicate that the bus, which was carrying passengers from Zimbabwe and Malawi, veered off the road along a steep mountain pass and plunged down an embankment. The passengers were reportedly travelling from the Eastern Cape back to their home countries. Emergency services, including paramedics, police, and disaster management teams, rushed to the scene and have been conducting rescue and recovery operations throughout the morning. The N1 northbound lane remains closed as authorities clear…
The Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) has come out strongly against media personality Ngizwe Mchunu for what it described as “hateful and violent utterances” targeting members of the LGBTQIA+ community. The remarks, allegedly made by Mchunu over the past weekend at the KwaMai-Mai establishment in Johannesburg, have sparked outrage for inciting discrimination and potential violence against queer people. In a strongly worded statement, the CGE said Mchunu’s comments were not only deeply offensive but also a “grave violation of human rights and an incitement of violence against a marginalised community.” “Words have consequences, and in this case, they have sown…
Businessman and alleged underworld figure Katiso “KT” Molefe (61) has been released on R400,000 bail after the Johannesburg High Court overturned an earlier ruling by the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court that had denied him bail. Molefe faces multiple murder charges, including allegations that he masterminded the November 2022 killings of popular musician DJ Sumbody — whose real name was Oupa John Sefoka — and his two bodyguards, Sibusiso Mokoena and Sandile Myeza. He has also been linked to the March 2022 shooting of DJ Vintos (Hector Buthelezi) outside a Soweto nightclub, as well as the April 2024 murder of engineer Armand…
The Johannesburg High Court has ruled in favour of City Power, granting an urgent interdict to suspend the Hawks’ execution of a search warrant that the court found was unlawfully issued and legally defective. The elite crime-fighting unit raided City Power’s premises in September as part of a corruption probe involving five employees. However, the warrant authorising the raid, dated 17 September 2025, was found to contain serious procedural and legal flaws. City Power welcomed the ruling, saying it vindicated the utility’s long-held position that the investigation was “deeply flawed” and marred by irregularities. “The ruling affirms our strongly held…

Concert Details VIP and hospitality ticket holders are advised to arrive well before showtime to avoid gridlock around the stadium precinct. Road Closures (from 11:00 AM) Transport and Access The…
The South African National Editors’ Forum (SANEF) has strongly condemned remarks made by KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, accusing him of launching an unprecedented attack on media freedom. Mkhwanazi made the comments on Tuesday night during a sitting of Parliament’s ad-hoc committee investigating his whistleblowing allegations on South African Police Service. Inn a strongly worded statement Sanef said instead of focusing on the inquiry, he called on the committee — and the Joint Standing Committee on Intelligence — to direct state security agencies to conduct a counterintelligence investigation against members of the South African media. On Wednesday mid-morning, Mkhwanazi…
Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital in Soweto has begun a major refurbishment of its laundry facilities as part of a broader initiative to modernise operations and improve patient care at Africa’s largest hospital. Serving over 1.5 million people, the hospital is upgrading its infrastructure by installing five new 100-kilogram tunnel washers and dryers — a move expected to significantly boost its capacity to provide clean linen to all wards, surgical units, and beds. According to hospital management, the modern equipment will support higher infection control standards and ensure a more hygienic environment for patients and staff. “As part of our…
Deputy President Paul Mashatile has arrived in the capital of South Sudan, Juba, for a vital two-day working visit designed to enhance peace and stability initiatives in the war-torn nation. This visit is part of Mashatile’s duties as South Africa’s Special Envoy to South Sudan, reflecting Pretoria’s unwavering commitment to supporting the country in its journey towards lasting peace. Central to Mashatile’s mission is the focus on the implementation of the Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of Conflict in South Sudan, an accord signed in September 2018 that aims to end years of devastating civil conflict. This agreement is a…
Judgment has been reserved in the high-profile bail application of Katiso “KT” Molefe, a businessman embroiled in controversy, as the Johannesburg High Court heard the case on Thursday. Molefe, accused of masterminding the 2022 murders of popular musician DJ Sumbody, whose real name was Oupa John Sefoka, and his two bodyguards, Sibusiso Mokoena and Sandile Myeza, is seeking to overturn a previous denial of bail by the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court in August. Alongside Molefe, three alleged hitmen—Michael Pule Tau, Musa Kekana, and Tiego Floyd Mabusela—are also facing serious charges, including the murders of DJ Sumbody and Hector “DJ Vintos” Buthelezi,…
What used to be known as the William Nicol drive has now been renamed after the struggle icon Winnie Mandela Drive in a move that authorities say will help give deserved honour to the late ANC stalwart and anti-apartheid activist. Madikizela Mandela’s great-grandchildren Zimphokazi Manaway said her grandmother considered Johannesburg her home. “From 1953 this City was always her home even during the bleak years from 1977 to 1985 when she was forced by the apartheid regime to live in the Free State town of Branford.” Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi and Joburg Mayor Kabelo Kwamanda were among those who took…
