The Executive Mayor of the Rustenburg Local Municipality, Sheila Mabale-Huma, has condemned copper cable theft and described it as a major contributing factor to persisting power cuts in Rustenburg. This follows the arrest of a municipal employee in the Electrical Department along with other foreigners for alleged vandalism and electric cables theft in Tsitsing, near Rustenburg, estimated to be around R800 000. The Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) has in its recent study, found sexual harassment to be increasingly high at Institutions of Higher Learning in the country. The North West MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, Madoda Sambatha, is optimistic that the lifting of vegetable exports from South Africa to Botswana, will boost trade for local farmers. The ban was imposed on 16 vegetables back in December 2021 and came into effect in January 2022. The International Boxing Association (IBA) has announced plans to take legal action against the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for the inclusion of Algeria and Taiwan fighters, Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-ting in the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics.
