The Gauteng Department of Education has suspended the sale of food in and around school premises across the province.  The move comes as part of the response to the surge in the consumption of suspected contaminated food by learners, allegedly caused by snacks bought from spaza shops and street vendors. Gauteng has reported over 200 cases of suspected food poisoning since February this year, with several children sadly losing their lives. A loyal Kaizer Chiefs fan by the name Moshikaro Moagi, vowed to walk back home to Tzaneen, Limpopo if Chiefs lost to Mamelodi Sundowns. He was captured holding a large placard at the FNB Stadium, in Soweto, where he wrote “If Sundowns beat us tonight, I will walk from JHB to Tzaneen,” with a big smile on his face. Parliament Portfolio Committee on Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities has considered a petition by grassroots movement #TeamFreeSanitaryPads, which is calling for the provision of free sanitary towels and menstrual health. This comes after numerous demonstrations by the organisation dating back to 2019, when it requested Parliament to draft a menstrual health bill after its petition garnered more than 40 000 signatures.
