The South African National Defence Force, SANDF, has confirmed the deaths of two of its members at the Democratic Republic of Congo, DRC. “The attack on 25 June 2025 resulted in two fatalities and twenty injured. Four members who were critically injured have been hospitalised, whilst the rest who suffered minor injuries are expected to be discharged soon,” said SANDF spokesperson Siphiwe Dlamini. There are growing calls for the world football governing body, FIFA, to introduce the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) during qualifying matches for the 2026 World Cup. Group C contenders Bafana Bafana and Zimbabwe, are the latest to call for the introduction of VAR. More than 200 artists have signed a petition by the non-profit organisation, Artist Rights Alliance (ARA), to prevent Artificial Intelligence (AI) developers from infringing upon the rights of human artists. The South African Football Association (SAFA) has sought to take legal action against the Hawks, after it instituted a raid at its headquarters last month. According to the Hawks, the raid was in connection with allegations of fraud and corruption to the tune of R1.3 million levelled against the Association’s President, Danny Jordaan.
