South Africa’s illustrious journey at the Netball World Youth Cup in Gibraltar has come to a halt after suffering a decisive defeat at the hands of four-time champions Australia. The Baby Proteas, who had dominated the tournament up until this point, faced a formidable opponent in the semifinals, ending their dream run with a final score of 67-36.

Despite this setback, the Baby Proteas have much to celebrate. The team achieved its primary goal of improving upon their previous best finish at the Netball World Youth Cup, where they placed fifth. This time around, they showcased remarkable talent and determination, advancing all the way to the semifinals, a testament to the promising future of netball in South Africa.

Australia defeated the SPAR Baby Proteas 67–36 in the semi-finals of the 2025 Netball World Youth Cup in Gibraltar. South Africa will now face England in the bronze medal play-off on Sunday.

Looking ahead, South Africa’s focus now shifts to securing the bronze medal in the playoff match for third and fourth place. They will face England on Sunday afternoon, an opportunity for redemption that the team is eagerly anticipating. The Baby Proteas will be looking to draw on their previous performances and enthusiasm to clinch what would be a worthy reward for their efforts in the tournament.

Australia’s commanding win means they will advance to the finals, where they are set to clash with New Zealand. The Baby Ferns, also four-time champions and the defending titleholders, are poised to challenge the Australians for the coveted trophy, promising an exciting showdown in the tournament’s finale.

With the next match against England looming, all eyes will be on the Baby Proteas as they aim to leave Gibraltar with a medal.
