Bafana Bafana have trashed Zimbabwe 3-1 in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein.

The hosts were the first one to take a lead in the first minute, following a mistake by the Warrior’s defence.

The mistake allowed striker Iqraam Rayners to capitalise and put the ball in the net.

The lead was however cancelled shortly when Zimbabwe’s Tawanda Chirewa equalised in the second minute, after combining perfectly with Marshall Munetsi.

Bafana created several chances but were unable to convert them into goals.

Both teams made several changes before the second half, with super-sub and man of the match Thapelo Morena in for Elias Mokwana.

Morena paid the coach’s confidence in him ten minutes later when he tapped the ball after the Warriors goalkeeper Geofrey Chitsumba fumbled a cross from Bafana striker Oswin Appollis.

Morena netted twenty minutes later to finish his brace, and stretched the lead to 3-1, after his Mamelodi Sundowns teammate Teboho Mokoena played a defence split pass, before he rounded Chitsumba to put the ball into an empty net.

The win leaves Bafana in position two with seven points behind surprise Group C leaders Rwanda, which is also on seven points, but tops the group due to goal differences.
