The Freedom Front Plus has given the new ANC led coalition of the City of Tshwane just a few months to fall apart.
The party’s caucus leader in the metro Grandi Theunissen claims the country’s banks will reject the new administration and refuse to borrow money from the municipality.
His comments comes in protest against the election of Action SA’s Nasiphi Moya as the executive mayor beating the DA’s Celliers Brink with a huge margin.
The FF plus leader claims the new ANC led administration will be in crisis before the end of the year.
“It’s going to be the most short lived mayoral committee. At best I give them a few months, you’ll see the whole thing fall apart,” said Theunissen following Moyà’s election.
He said banks were apprehensive about an ANC-EFF coalition and were likely to refuse to lend the municipality money.
“Let’s watch and see what happens in November when they have to pay bonuses to workers. They won’t be money for that and I doubt the bank would be comfortable giving any credit to the city with this executive in charge so you’re looking at an inevitable crisis,” he said.
It recently emerged Tshwane recorded the highest unauthorised expenditure of well over R13 million which Theunissen insists was a result of a spending trend the ousted DA-led coalition government inherited.
The DA has been governing Tshwane for 8 years and has had no less than five mayors.
ANC Tshwane Regional Secretary George Matjila rejected the FF+ view and suggested it bordered on racial stereotyping.
“We reject those comments. Yes there’s problems but it’s them who created the chaos. Remember the DA has been in charge for 8 years so to suggest lenders would suddenly not trust the city because there’s black leadership is problematic and racist actually,” said Matjila.
