Banyana Banyana head coach Dr Desiree Ellis has announced a squad of 22 players who will face Lesotho’s Mehalalitoe for two international friendly games.

The matches, which form part of the team’s preparations for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), in Morocco later this year, are scheduled for the 22nd and 25th of February.

Ellis also announced that Banyana will start training with a goal keeper’s camp on 15 February, with in-field players set to join camp on the 17th in Johannesburg.

The head coach is forging ahead with the plan of building the squad depth by calling up young players.

“We are always watching players and have been impressed with the group we have called in for the two matches.

As you see, some are from the COSAFA Championships played last year, some are currently part of the U17 National Team and will have an opportunity to learn from the senior team while they prepare for their World Cup qualifiers.

We want to see what the following players will bring to the team.

We want them to showcase themselves and fight for a sport in the senior team,” said Ellis.

The teams will battle it out at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville.

Furthermore, Banyana’s sponsor, Sasol, sought to congratulate the newly announced squad ahead of their clash.

“To all the players both new and experienced, we wish you the very best.

This is a team that continues to live the impossible on and off the field and we have no doubt that you will bring the same passion, resilience, and excellence to these encounters.

Sasol will be behind you, South Africa will be behind you-go out there and shine,” remarked Sasol’s Group Brand and Sponsorships Manager, Dean Somerset.
