South Africa’s women’s national team Banyana Banyana will today kick off their COSAFA Women’s Championship campaign against Namibia, at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape.

Banyana are in Group A with Namibia, Eswatini and Seychelles at the tournament that is scheduled between 22 October until 02 November.

The team’s coach named to lead the team in this competition, Maude Khumalo, is confident that they’ll win their opening group stage match despite all odds.

“We do not have enough time, but there is nothing we can do about it.

The only thing left for us as a technical team is to make sure we find the right combinations and also for the players to understand the mandate.

I think the players that are here are eager to give their best and also show fans what they are capable of,’’ commented Khumalo ahead of today’s clash.

All COSAFA nations will be part of the competition, making it the biggest senior women’s tournament in Africa.

Banyana are looking to reclaim their title in this year’s edition of the cup, after failed attempts in the past three years.

The match will kick off at 17:00 South African time and supporters are encouraged to rally behind the team in numbers.
