Police in Gauteng have confirmed that two suspects have been identified in connection with the deadly mass shooting at the KwaNoxolo tavern in Bekkersdal on the West Rand at the weekend.
Authorities also revealed that the death toll has risen to ten, while another ten survivors remain in critical condition in hospital. The shooting occurred when a group of heavily armed suspects stormed the tavern and opened fire indiscriminately on patrons.
Gauteng Deputy Provincial Commissioner Major General Fred Kekana said police investigations are progressing, with detectives now pursuing leads linked to the identified suspects.
“We have already identified two possible suspects and will be engaging with them as part of the investigation. They are expected to assist us in tracing others involved, including helping us recover the firearms used,” said Kekana.
Police have appealed to community members to come forward with any information. They confirmed that a white Toyota Quantum and a silver Toyota Etios were used by the attackers.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
