The Springbok Sevens have beaten France 26-14 to win the HSBC SVNS Cape Town at the DHL stadium on Sunday.
The Blitzboks last won the tournament on home soil in December 2015, when they beat Argentina in the final, they were twice runners up against England (2016) and New Zealand (2019).
With more than 75 000 people in attendance and the Springbok captain cheering on, the Blitzboks scored four tries to France’s two in the final.
“It’s really great to see the players enjoy this win,” said Snyman.
“They are the real heroes of this weekend, and they played for every member of our squad who could not be on the field tonight.
“We are very happy with the win, especially since everyone in the squad worked extremely hard, and I’m very proud of how they played,” said the Blitzboks coach, Philip Snyman.
Snyman was part of the Blitzboks squad that won the inaugural Cape Town tournament in 2015.
Blitzboks co-captain Zain Davids, said the wins means a lot for the players.
“I think you can see the guys are celebrating.
We really wanted this.
The guys showed a lot of heart out there, we played for each other,” said Davids.
His comments were echoed by the team’s other co-captain, Impi Visser.
“It’s just incredible.
It’s been nine years since we last won it so it’s great to break the curse and give the people of Cape Town something to really celebrate.
