After three days of recovery efforts, rescue teams finally found the body of the 11-year-old boy who drowned while allegedly walking with friends on the banks of the river. The Tshwane Emergency Services Department confirmed the unnamed boy’s body was discovered earlier today.

“The South African Police dive unit and the K9 unit as well as the Gauteng Emergency Services medical services rescue unit have recovered the body of the 11-year-old boy who drowned on the Apies River. The recovery was conducted during the search just after 11 o’clock.

“The scene is still under the command of the South African Police Service who  are still on site as we speak,” said Tshwane Emergency Services spokesperson, Charles Mabaso.

The rescue team started searching for the boy on Monday but the search was called off due to heavy water current  which hindered their efforts.

“A search was resumed but couldn’t be completed due to poor visibility yesterday as well as fast running water and high river banks. However, today the team started with the search along the river banks,” said Mabaso.
