Excitement is starting to build up in the North West province as the Netball World Cup Trophy is set to arrive in Potchefstroom on Monday 19 June 2023.

So far, the trophy has reached different cities and remote areas within other provinces including KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, and Free State.

North West, the Platinum Province will receive the trophy from the Free State on Monday.

The trophy will then go to different districts of North West and the schedule is as follows:

  • 19 June | Dr Kenneth Kaunda District
  • 20 June | Bojanala District
  • 21 June | Ngaka Modiri Molema District
  • 22 June | Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District
  • 23 June | Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District handover to Northern Cape.

Speaking on the excitement of the trophy tour, Netball South Africa President Cecilia Molokwane said: “Let it be an African spectacle, showcasing our culture and our uniqueness as South Africa because we are a rainbow nation and to me showing that Africa can do it and women can do it is the most important thing,

“We want to leave a legacy.

“Hosting the Netball World Cup is a first for Africa, so history will be made right here on home soil and right on our doorstep.”

Tournament director Priscilla Masisi said everything is on track to host a memorable first Netball World Cup on African soil.

“We are heading into the final stretch of our preparations now and, while we are hard at work getting everything ready, the excitement is really palpable. It’s almost time to welcome the world and we can’t wait,” she said.

From the Northern Cape, the trophy will move to the Eastern Cape, before reaching its destination in the Western Cape.

The Vitality Netball World Cup 2023 will take place from July 18 to August 6 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
