Controversial North West businessman Brown Mogotsi has not filed a formal complaint after his car was found riddled with bullets on Mdhlebe Street, Vosloorus Extension 25, on Monday night.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) described Mogotsi as uncooperative in the ongoing investigation. According to police, his phone remains switched off, and although he previously promised to open a case, no statement had been lodged by midday Tuesday.

Speaking outside the Vosloorus Police Station, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said investigators were continuing with the probe regardless of Mogotsi’s cooperation.

“We need to get to the bottom of what exactly happened. Whether Mr Mogotsi presents himself next week for the statement, we are continuing with the investigation into attempted murder. His statement is important to assist us in ascertaining what may have transpired,” Mathe said.

Mogotsi has been linked to alleged political interference and his name has surfaced in testimony at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry and the Parliamentary ad hoc committee, both investigating corruption and interference within the police service.

The timing of the incident is significant, as Mogotsi is scheduled to appear at Parliament’s ad hoc committee later this month. He is expected to provide testimony on his alleged links to criminal syndicates, a drug cartel, and suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu.

The case remains under investigation, with authorities working to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack and determine whether further suspects or motives emerge.
