The opening day of the 202/25 Betway Premiership saw eight goals scored, with wins for Kaizer Chiefs and Polokwane City, while Royal AM and Cape Town City settled for a draw.

The first goal of the league was scored just eight minutes after kick-off by City’s Prins Tijuena, during their encounter in the afternoon with Royal at the Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg.

But the host fought hard for secure a draw when Motebang Sera stunned the visitors late in the game.

The much-anticipated reign of Chiefs new mentor Nasreddine Nabi got off to a winning start at the Free State stadium in Bloemfontein.

This as the Glamour Boys came from a goal down, to defeat Marumo Gallants 2-1, who were playing with ten-man, after former Chiefs player Joseph Malongoane was sent off towards the end of the match.

The host were the first one to hit the net through Sekela Sithole, but Amakhosi equalised through Mduduzi Shabalala to finish halftime level at 1-1.

Malongoane saw red in the second half, and trophy draught Chiefs took full advantage of his misery, when Chiefs sensational 18-year-old youngster Mfundo Vilakazi sealed victory after coming in as substitute.

Meanwhile at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium, the host Polokwane stunned Usuthu 2-1, following a costly mistake by goalkeeper Veli Mothwa.

The game was heading for a draw after Etioa Ighodaro and Bulelani Nikani scored one goal each for their teams, before Mothwa committed the error during injury-time, to allow Tholo Matuludi seal victory for the host.

Richards Bay will host TS Galaxy in the only Premiership match scheduled for Sunday at the King Zwelithini Stadium.
