Chiefs woes continue, as Pirates halt Sundowns winning spree

Relegation-threatened Richards Bay inflicted a blow on Kaizer Chiefs by beating them 2-0 in a Betway Premiership at the King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium in Durban on Sunday. Despite dominating the match, Amakhosi failed to convert the possession into goals, and were most of the time wasteful.

The Natal Rich Boys took advantage of Chiefs woeful finish, to boost their survival hopes by clinching the win, which elevated them to 11th position, while Amakhosi remain 8th in the log. In a top of the table clash at the FNB stadium, Orlando Pirates derailed Mamelodi Sundowns hopes of clinching the league early, by beating them 2-1.Relebohile Mofokeng’s quick brace in the first five minutes secured the Buccaneers win over the log leaders.

The win reduced Sundowns lead to 15 points, although Pirates have played four fewer games than the defending league champions. Khuliso Mudau scored Sundowns consolation goal in the second half.Stellenbosch FC overcame a stubborn Sekhukhune United by winning 2-1 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.The win ensures that Stellies maintains third place in the log, and back to winning ways.
