Orlando Pirates will be hoping to get through SuperSport United in their quest for a third successive Nedbank Cup title. The two teams will face off against each other at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane this afternoon. Pirates coach Jose Riviero says despite the favourites tag, their weary of SuperSport United, which has been battling in the Betway Premiership.
Matsatsantsa’s coach Gavin Hunt will however be buoyed as they emerged victorious in the last two Nedbank Cup matches between the two clubs, which were in the final of the Cup. Stellenbosch FC will host out of sorts Kaizer Chiefs this evening at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, Gqeberha.
Stellies will be hoping to break the duck against Chiefs, as the team has never beat Chiefs in cup competition.The 6pm clash had to be moved to Gqeberha, as the Stellenbosch municipality has banned fixtures against Chiefs at the Danie Craven Stadium due to its size, and the unavailability of any stadiums in Cape Town.The change of venue has left Stellenbosch coach Steve Barker furious.
“It’s not good for us as a team, as a club and it’s not good for our fans. It is disappointing.Obviously, the first disappointment is that it’s not the first time, and it doesn’t seem like it’s going to be the last time that there won’t be a stadium available for matches,” said Barker.
Chiefs on the other hand Chiefs have had the upper hand against Stellies.The Amakhosi won eight of the 15 matches against The Maroons, with three losses, four draws.Chiefs has also won all three cup competitions matches that the two sides have faced in the past. Meanwhile, in-form Mamelodi Sundowns will host Sekhukhune United at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville this evening at 8pm.
Masandawana will be hoping to improve from their midweek performance, when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Golden Arrows in a Betway Premiership match. Sekhukhune, who are currently 4th in the log, will be hoping that Thursday’s shocked dismissal of coach Lehlohonolo Seema will not affect the players performance.
The last weekend quarterfinal match will see the only club remaining from the Motsepe Foundation Championship, Durban City, host Marumo Gallants at the Chatsworth Stadium on Sunday.
