After losing a whopping 24 seats in the metro council, the DA became the biggest loser in the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality, after the IEC released its final local government election results on Thursday evening.

The DA gained ground in 2016 municipal polls, securing 93 seats, pushing the ANC out of the controlling seat of the capital city.

The ANC was hoping to reclaim Tshwane, but while the party is now leading with 75 seats in the municipality, it still experienced a decline and dropped from 89 seats.

In 2016 the EFF earned a kingmaker title when it obtained 25 seats and went into a coalition with the opposition party to oust the ANC from power.

The EFF now has 23 seats and has lost two seats in the municipality. The FF Plus has gained massively in wards that were regarded as DA strongholds, gaining 17 seats from the four it had in the previous municipal polls.

Newcomer ActionSA has scored 19 seats In the Tshwane council.

Several political parties have started coalition talks, while the DA and EFF said they will not get into a coalition government again after the Tshwane one fell apart in the middle of a term.

ActionSA and FF Plus have also vowed not to get into a coalition government with ANC, while the  ANC said it is willing to engage with all political parties.
