Victoria Kjaer Theilvig of Denmark was crowned the 73rd Miss Universe at the pageant that was held at the Mexico City Arena, in Mexico.
This makes her the first Danish to win the competition, where she outclassed over 100 contestants from around the world.
The 21-year-old delivered a strong message in her final answer which declared her the winner.
“My message to the world that is watching out there is no matter where you come from, no matter your past, you can always choose to turn it into your strengths.
It will never define who you are. You just have to keep fighting.
I stand here today because I want to change.
So never give up, always believe in yourself and dreams and that’s what you’re going to do.
Thank you,” said Theilvig.
Meanwhile, representing Nigeria, Chidimma Adetshina was announced as the first runner-up coming in second behind Victoria.
This despite being mired in controversy, as her South African citizenship is under scrutiny, with the Department of Home Affairs not ruling out revoking it.
The drama led her to pull out of the 2024 Miss SA competition and went to try her luck at the Miss Universe Nigeria, where she won.
South Africa’s shot at the Miss Universe title hit a snag when reigning Miss SA Mia le Roux withdrew due to health concerns.
She thanked the support she received in her journey and expressed gratitude to the opportunity.
Le roux also mentioned that her focus is to make a full recovery to continue serving Mzansi with full strength.
