Denmark trash Banyana Banyana in a friendly match

Denmark inflicted one of the heaviest defeats on Banyana Banyana, when they beat the African champions 5-0 in an international friendly match played at Aalborg Stadium on Friday night.

Despite dominating the first half and withstanding the Danes attack, Banyana failed to put their names on the scoreboard and lived to regret it in the second half.

But the Red and White came strong in the second half, helped by the wet and cold conditions that affected Banyana’s performance, as they conceded three goals in less than ten minutes

Despite the loss, coach Dr Desiree Ellis, heaped praise at the players, adding that they gained a valuable experience.

“We had a plan and unfortunately it broke down in the second half. We did very well in the first half, our defence stayed compact, the players took the blows dealt to them by Denmark and we tried to go forward a little.

“The second half was rather tough for the players, and to keep up with a team ranked 12th in the world was always going to be a challenge.

But I believe the players gave their all today, we made substitutions which we hoped would be effective, but the strength of the Danish showed,” said Ellis.

The coach highlighted that they will now study the match, and see where they can improve on, ahead of Tuesday’s friendly match against England in Coventry.

“Remember we are on a journey to WAFCON, and we are happy that we are facing the challenges we will come across in 2025.

So, these matches are to prepare our players for 2025.

I would also like to congratulate Kholoso Biyana on her 50th cap tonight, this is a huge milestone for her, and we hope she will continue riding this journey with us,” added Desiree.
