The Minister of the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture, has wished the Grammy Award winning artist, Nkosinathi Maphumulo, popularly known as DJ Black Coffee, for headlining Saturday night historic performance at the Madison Square Garden in New York, USA.
The Umlazi born DJ is the first South African artist to headline a concert, at the world-renowned venue.
‘’From the streets of Umlazi and Mthatha, to the world’s most famous music arenas, Nkosinathi, you are an inspiration to the young and old.
You continue to scale the great heights of world music, taking along with you the best of South African music,” read a statement from the department.
The DJ will be supported by local artists that include Major League DJz, Msaki, Oskido and Mondli Ngcobo. Other local and international artists have also indicated that they will be part of the thousands of fans who will attend the event in New York.
Tickets to the show are already sold out and the ‘Superman’ hitmaker expressed his outmost gratitude and took to Instagram the sentimental reasons behind the list of special guests who will be joining him at The Big Apple.
“Each guest I’ve chosen to join me at the @gardens has played a special part in my musical journey and I can’t wait to experience music in The Garden with you’’, he posted.
Earlier this year, the DJ was among the South African award winners honoured by the Minister, for achievement on the global stage.
As Coffee continues to take his African sound to the world, his fans are now about to witness him achieving another milestone in his career.
