The family is appreciative of all the messages of support and condolences that have started to flow in and humbly request that they be given the space and time to deal with the trauma,”

“The family representative will keep you posted on both the memorial and funeral service during the course of the week,” read a statement from Mashata’s Manager, Gugu Ngubeni.

Police in Tshwane police said they are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder.

Gauteng police spokesperson Col Noxolo Kweza said Tshwane police had opened two dockets of murder and attempted murder.

The shooting involved two men aged 46 and 45 years during the early hours of Sunday.

“The two victims were driving near Tshwane University of Technology in Soshanguve when shots were fired at their vehicle,” said Gauteng police spokesperson, Colonel Noxolo Kweza.

Kweza added that the suspects fled, and police are following several leads.

Mashata had just performed at Epozini Lifestyle in Soshanguve block G around 00:00, for an All Black with Mashata event.

He was also popular at Soul Sessions events across the country and could be seen belting out the tunes with his fans in most of his social media posts.

Mashata also had a brief stint with YouFM in December 2022 as a host of Sunday Brunch With You.
