Police have confirmed that a drug mule arrested at the OR Tambo International Airport on Sunday, has been rushed to hospital following a health complication.

This after he released about 117 “drug bullets” that he ingested suspected to contain cocaine.

According to the Deputy National Commissioner responsible for policing, Lieutenant General Tebello Mosikili, the operation has since been suspended.

“The mule has already released 117 since he was arrested.

The operation has since been suspended, because every time he releases, he starts to bleed.

The bullets are coming with traces of blood, which is an indication that there is a medical challenge in his stomach,” said Mosikili.

Mosikili highlighted that this will serve as a deterrent to drug-mules, that the exercise is dangerous and can cause loss of life when the bullets rapture or explode.

About 14 suspected drug mules have been arrested at the airport in the past month.

The drug mule, who is from Paraguay, landed from São Paulo when he was arrested by police officials at the airport.

A medical examination confirmed that he had swallowed multiple foreign objects

“This week alone, police arrested three drug mules including two Dutch traffickers who were found with 80kg of Khat.

Sunday’s arrest is the 14th drug mule to be arrested in recent weeks,” explained Mosikili.
