Tuesday’s protest against Uganda’s anti-homosexuality law will be led by Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema at the Ugandan High Commission in Pretoria.

A contentious anti-homosexuality law that makes homosexual activities criminal by up to 10 years in jail has been approved by the Ugandan parliament. Only two members of the ruling party cast a vote against the widely condemned legislation.

“You cannot advocate for hatred while also telling the Ugandan government that you disagree with it. Hate has us as its victims. This law that is passed in Uganda will be an act of hatred because we experienced discrimination based on our identity, which resulted to the deaths of many people. What if Museveni is homosexual and he is unaware of it? And now, at a mature age, he can find it,” said Malema.

“As long as the LGBTQI+ are not free in Uganda we as South Africans are not free.”

Yoweri Museveni, the president of Uganda, has not yet ratified the measure. Malema has pleaded with the Ugandan government to change its mind.
