The EFF has slammed the deal between the City of Tshwane and right wing pressure group Afriforum and called for its immediate termination.

The agreement, announced this week by Mayor Celliers Brink will see the interest group cutting grass, filling potholes and carrying out general maintenance among others.

The EFF, an opposition in the council has called for the immediate termination of the deal accusing the metro’s DA-led coalition government of using municipal resources to appease disgruntled voters who dumped the blue party for Freedom Front +.

“ By entering into service delivery agreements with Afriforum, the Democratic Alliance explicitly displays its deep-seated hatred for the black, coloured, Indian and Chinese residents of the Tshwane, compromising their wellness to appease racist constituents who have shifted their support to the Freedom Front +,” said the EFF’s Gauteng chapter in a statement issued by provincial communications manager Dumisani Baleneni.

Brink is yet to disclose how much is Afriforum going to make out of the unprecedented deal and the EFF is demanding full disclosure including how the agreement was initiated.

“The EFF in Gauteng insists that the Democratic Alliance disclose all processes leading to this agreement, as the residents of Tshwane must not suffer due to racist collaborations that favour a minority at the cost of widespread service delivery,” said the party.

The party also likened the agreement to an attempt to create Western Cape-like racial inequality.

While the DA uses Cape Town and the Western Cape as examples of purported effective governance, the coloured and black communities remain in abject poverty with no access to services and opportunities.

“The EFF in Gauteng demands the immediate termination of this racist partnership between the Democratic Alliance and Afriforum. Mayor Celliers Brink must abandon any attempts to reintroduce apartheid by stealth, as the EFF will not remain silent,” said the EFF.
