On Monday afternoon, stage three load shedding was put into place.
Three generation units at the Duvha, Kendal, and Kriel power stations were put back into operation over the weekend, according to acting spokesperson Daphne Mokwena.
“In the power plants at Duvha, Hendrina, Kriel, Majuba, Medupi, and Tutuka, there are still difficulties in getting the equipment back in operation. We appreciate everyone in South Africa for continuing to use electricity responsibly in order to lessen the strain on the power grid.”
According to Clyde Mallinson, director of Virtual Energy and Power, who forecasted rotational power cuts using historical load-shedding data from the winter and the state of Eskom’s coal power plants. Despite Eskom’s assertion that stage 6 load shedding is unlikely during the winter, South Africa may experience up to stage 11 load shedding this season.
