Five suspects were reportedly taken into custody in Cape Town, more than six weeks after the rapper and his longtime friend were gunned down outside a popular restaurant on Florida Road in Durban.

According to News24, homicide investigators had been following the movements of five men suspected of being at the heart of AKA’s murder plot for weeks.

Although Police Minister Bheki Cele hinted that cellphone activity was a critical cog in the investigation, DNA and fingerprints taken from the vehicle used in the double murder were crucial in identifying the persons of interest, according to sources close to the case.

According to reports, the suspects fled Florida Road and ditched the getaway vehicle 26 kilometers away in Umlazi, a township located south-west of Durban.

On Sunday, March 26, detectives working with Western Cape law enforcement narrowed in on the alleged killers at a retail centre in Belhar after weeks of tracking the activities of the five suspects in Cape Town.

It is yet uncertain if they have been formally accused of killing AKA and Tibz. According to what Newsnote knows, the suspects will be taken to Durban for additional questioning.

This story is still developing.
