The bail application of North West Development Corporation (NWDC) Chief Financial Officer, Kudakwashe Mpofu, has been postponed by the Mmabatho Magistrates’ Court in Mahikeng on Wednesday. The 33-year-old Mpofu, who is a Zimbabwean national, is facing charges of fraud and was arrested by members of the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation on Tuesday in Mahikeng.

His arrest follows an investigation into allegations of using a fraudulent South African permanent residence permit when he applied for a job at the NWDC in March 2023.

“Reports indicate that the accused was subsequently hired as an asset manager and later became an acting chief financial officer. Shortly after that he was appointed on a permanent basis as the CFO. The accused was reportedly paid over R3 million in salaries. Following an investigation, Mpofu was apprehended and charged with fraud,” said North West Hawks Spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Tinyiko Mathebula.

Mpofu’s case was postponed to 3 February 2025 for formal bail application. In addition, Mathebula said the Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Brigadier Silas Munzhedzi, and the Director of Public Prosecutions in North West, Dr Rachel Makhari, have commended collaborative work between the two entities in ensuring that the accused is brought to justice.
