The North West police have confirmed that four people were killed in an accident in the early hours of Monday at Jericho in Maboloka near Brits, North West.

According to the police, four males who were in a light motor vehicle sustained extensive injuries and were all declared dead on the scene by paramedics.

The provincial police spokesperson Colonel Adele Myburgh said it appeared that the vehicle lost control and came to a complete halt against the Eskom electric wires.

Myburgh said they are busy with investigation to get to the bottom of what caused the accident. “We are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident, and our main priority is to inform the family of the deceased,”Said Myburgh.

Even though the province came fourth with the least fatalities recorded in the festive season, it seems the number of road accidents are increasing with the death of nine people in separate crashes recorded in the province over the weekend.

When releasing the 2022 festive season Road traffic statistics between 1 December 2022 and 11 January this year, the Minister of Transport Fikile Mbalula blamed human factor as the main cause of road fatalities, which accounted for 87% of all accidents.
