South Africa’s Gerda Steyn has solidified her place in the annals of athletic history by clinching her sixth consecutive title at the Two Oceans Marathon in Cape Town. On Saturday, Steyn showcased her unmatched talent by dominating the 56km race and crossing the finish line in an impressive time of 3:26:54, just a minute shy of her own course record of 3:29:06 set in 2023. The achievement not only underscores her position as the queen of road running but also elevates her status as one of the nation’s most decorated ultra-distance athletes.

Steyn’s remarkable performance left the competition far behind, her stamina and racing finesse evident from start to finish. As she crossed the finish line, the crowd erupted in celebration, acknowledging the magnitude of her achievement at the iconic Two Oceans event, a fixture in the South African sporting landscape.

Meanwhile, the men’s race brought its own excitement, as Namakoe Nkhasi of Lesotho initially captured the attention of thousands with a strong start. However, it was teammate Tebello Ramakongoana who ultimately outshone the competition, delivering a masterclass in race strategy and pacing. Ramakongoana’s calculated timing and strategic surge in the final stretch saw him clinch victory in a time of 3:09:12, demonstrating remarkable control over the notoriously hilly course.

This year’s Two Oceans Marathon witnessed an electrifying atmosphere as thousands of runners and supporters flooded the streets of Cape Town. The event not only highlighted athletic prowess but also celebrated the resilience and community spirit that endurance running inspires.

As both Steyn and Ramakongoana bask in their well-deserved victories, the 2025 edition of the Two Oceans Marathon is sure to evoke more thrilling narratives, emotional moments, and a testament to the sheer willpower exhibited by ultra-distance runners around the globe.
