Harry Kane aims to haunt Arsenal again as Bayern Munich visit the Emirates

Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane returns to the Emirates Stadium tonight looking to extend his remarkable scoring record against Arsenal in their UEFA Champions League clash.

The England captain has scored 15 goals against the Gunners in all competitions — 14 of them during his time at Tottenham Hotspur in the North London Derby. Kane joined Spurs in 2011 and spent 12 years regularly punishing Arsenal’s defence. Although nine of those goals came from the penalty spot, he remains the highest-scoring player in Premier League history against Arsenal.

Speaking ahead of the match, Kane said he always relished facing Arsenal, but insisted the focus now is on Bayern.

“It was always a big moment when I was at Tottenham, the North London derby,” he told journalists on Tuesday. “But it’s not about me and Arsenal — it’s about Bayern and Arsenal. I’m in good form, and it’s just about helping my team and scoring goals.”

The clubs last met in the 2023 Champions League quarterfinals, where Bayern edged Arsenal 3–2 on aggregate. Kane scored from the spot in that tie as well. He expects tonight’s encounter to be equally demanding.

“Arsenal have many good players. They know how we press and win the ball back. We’ve created many chances that way, but it always carries risks. It will be a battle, and it will come down to who is better in tight spaces.”

Bayern coach Vincent Kompany also acknowledged the challenge Arsenal present, particularly at set pieces.

“As a player in big teams, you analyse your opponents’ strengths, but you also believe in your own,” Kompany said. “There’s a lot to consider when you play Arsenal — but they have to do the same. I can see what makes them special, but it’s important we show what makes us special as well.”

Kompany further praised Mikel Arteta’s influence on Arsenal’s rise.

“He’s played a major role at Arsenal. When he left Manchester City, no one was surprised he could become the manager he is now. Few teams defend as well in the penalty area, and when it comes to set pieces, there are hardly any teams better organised. They’ve been together a long time under Arteta, and you can see that.”

Arsenal and Bayern have met 18 times — all in the Champions League. Bayern have won eight, Arsenal five, with four matches ending in draws.

Bayern currently top the group with 12 points after winning all four matches. Arsenal are level on points but sit second due to scoring fewer goals.
