The Department of Higher Education and Training has wished the North West-based Orbit College FC soccer team well, as it gears up for its first Betway Premiership clash this weekend.

The team will kick off its league campaign by facing Amazulu FC at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban.

The department views this as a momentous milestone especially for TVET Colleges across the country.

“This is not just a game, but a testament to the power of opportunity, talent and discipline nurtured behind Orbit TVET. The success of Orbit is the success of the entire PSET system. We also extend our congratulations to the coaching and technical team, the college management, and especially to the captain and players who will take to the field this weekend. We are behind you all the way, and we look forward to cheering you on when you play at home,” read a statement from the department.

The department also implored all other TVET Colleges, Universities and SETA institutions in the country, to rally behind Orbit FC.

According to the department, the team not only raises the sector’s flag high as athletes, but it does so “as student ambassadors who represent the best of what the education system can produce.”

Meanwhile, the club’s coach, Pogisho Makhoye, expressed confidence in the squad’s capabilities during the 2025/26 Betway Premiership launch earlier this week.

He guaranteed that they will give it their all to clinch the top position in the league standings.

Makhoye also expressed optimism that the home games will boost the North West economy and benefit local traders.
