Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has finalised the 23-man squad that will represent South Africa in the upcoming 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Congo Brazzaville.
The team will kick off their two-legged series by hosting the Congolese at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape on 11 October.
They will then finish off the series against Congo in an away match scheduled for 15 October.
Amongst those who made the cut is midfielder Teboho Mokwena, defender Khuliso Mudau and forwards, Themba Zwane, Lyle Foster and Thapelo Morena.
The team’s captain Ronwen Williams was also recalled after missing the last two qualifiers against Uganda and South Sudan due to an injury.
Despite naming Bafana’s striker Percy Tau in his preliminary squad, Broos did not include him in the final draft.
He attributed the decision to the uncertainty of Tau’s future at his current club, Al Ahly, which he reckons might be part of the reasons why he hasn’t been fully present in his role to the national team.
Bafana Bafana who are currently on the second position in Group K, need to clinch at least four or a maximum of six points to strengthen their stance in a bid to make it to the continental showpiece to be held in Morocco next year.
