Former Bafana Bafana, Mamelodi Sundown and Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane, said he is humbled and honoured after he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Johannesburg in Auckland Park.

According to the University, the award is for Mosimane’s exceptional contributions to the sport and his steadfast commitment to excellence and innovation.

“I am deeply honoured and humbled to stand before you today as the recipient of this honorary doctoral degree from the University of Johannesburg.

This moment is a testament to the incredible journey I have had, one that has been shaped by the power of education and the beautiful game of football,” said Dr Mosimane in his acceptance speech.

The 59-year-old Mosimane is the most successful local coach.

He won two CAF Champions League titles with Al Ahly and one with Sundowns.

He also had a stint in the Saudi Arabia Pro-League.

Jingles, as he is popularly known, said growing up in Kagiso he never imagined that football would open doors for him.

“Football has been my passport to the world providing opportunities of which I have dreamt.

I’ve connected with many high-profile personalities from presidents and international icons to the world’s best sports personalities and celebrities.

Football has allowed me to improve the lives of my family and me, now also future generations.

Football has given me the opportunity to coach against some of the best players in the world,” explained Mosimane.
