IDAC operations head kidnapped, robbed hours after Parliament testimony

The Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) has confirmed that its head of operations, Matthews Sesoko, was kidnapped and robbed of his work devices on Friday night.

It’s understood Sesoko was accosted by unknown suspects in Pretoria. His vehicle was later found still idling on a secluded section of the R25 in Kempton Park in the early hours of Saturday morning. He was released safely around 2am.

Sesoko’s state-issued cellphones and laptop were stolen during the incident.

The attack comes just days after IDAC head Andrea Johnson appeared before Parliament’s ad hoc committee investigating allegations of corruption, political interference, and infiltration within the criminal justice system.

Sesoko has been closely involved in several high-profile cases, including the probe that led to the arrest of Crime Intelligence head Lieutenant-General Dumisani Khumalo and six other senior officers earlier this year.

Authorities have yet to comment on whether the kidnapping is linked to his work.

This is a developing story.
