Imbumba Foundation, a Non-profit organisation established in 2012, is passionate about assisting underprivileged community members around Limpopo and the North West Province.

The NGO under Its Caring4Girls initiative, has reached no less than 12 000 girls in the two provinces, through its rollout of sanitary towels all in a bid to to help the girl-child not to miss school because of menstrual cycles.

The Foundation said it holds workshops to teach girl-children about their rights and how to survive in society.

The Imbumba Foundation is currently running a campaign in Rustenburg and its CEO Richard Mabaso said the initiative is having a positive impact.

“We had an incredible day here in Rustenburg with our Caring4Girls program. It was one of those days where we were launching our 2023 partnership where we’re supporting over 12 000 girl learners with sanitary pads, to make sure that they don’t have to miss a day of school.

“So for us really really, in line with the Nelson Mandela Foundation theme or mantra for 2023, that the legacy lives on through you, meaning through us, as people, us as a nation, we’re very excited to have been able to do these incredible life changing activation on a month where the world celebrates Mandela Day.

“And we continue to pursue the best that we can to make sure that we can indeed end the period of poverty and make sure that there’s no girl who has to miss a day of school, simply because they don’t have a packet of sanitary pads, “said Mabaso.

The Caring4Girls campaign is one of the largest  sanitary towel distribution programmes in South Africa and while it focuses on the North West and Limpopo, the foundation hopes to assist millions of girls throughout South Africa.

Mabasa said they aim to bring about social change and economic upliftment, within rural and economically marginalised communities in Southern Africa, through investing and mentoring individuals and communities who seek to uplift and empower themselves.

The foundation currently has 3 flagship programmes – Caring4Girls, Trek4Mandela, and Vision20/20 and provides humanitarian aid during times of crisis.

Mabasa added thatTrek4Mandela, which has seen over 300 local and international climbers, is an annual expedition whereby a group of inspired individuals summit Mount Kilimanjaro, on Mandela Day – 18 July and Women’s Day – 09 August, and was created to raise funds and awareness for the Caring4Girls initiative and has led 13 successful expeditions since 2012.
