Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) called on the National commissioner, Fannie Masemola, to probe Human Resource processes in the police force.

Popcru members were picketing outside the SAPS office in Tshwane on Wednesday.

South African Police Service(SAPS) recruited about 5000 police trainees to capacitate the force earlier this year.

Popcru spokesperson Richard Mamabolo said the union has  since learned that over 545 members have not received their stipends.

“Just two days ago, we learned that there are more members, around 30, who have not been captured within the SAPS system. So that raises a lot of discrepancies, and that is why we are urgently calling on the National police commissioner to investigate all these allegations as to why certain things have not been done,” he said.

The police union has also called for the human resources officials to step aside pending an investigation into the process.

“There are different HR units within SAPS; there are infighting within the different HR units hence they can’t coordinate their work to ensure that the trainees get equal treatment. Those are some of the things we think are part of the challenges. We think there is a lack of coordination within HR. That is why we are saying they need to be suspended so that investigations are not interfered with,” said Mamabolo.

SAPS received the memorandum of demand.
