The Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Department Cluster has stepped forward to address the burgeoning confusion surrounding the arrest of popular Amapiano musician, Tebogo G. Mashego. This clarification follows a viral video that depicted the artist being apprehended and restrained in the back of a police van, an incident that sparked widespread speculation and concern across social media platforms.

In an official statement released via X, the Justice Department outlined the circumstances surrounding Mashego’s arrest, stating, “Information received indicates that he displayed abnormal behaviour and allegedly acted violently, assaulting people without apparent cause.” According to the department, officers from the Laudium SAPS were called to the scene after Mashego exhibited signs of aggression, compelling them to take decisive action for the safety of the public.

This incident marks another chapter in a series of controversies that have engulfed Mashego, notably following his release of a series of emotionally charged videos wherein he made alarming accusations against various figures in the Amapiano music scene. Among the notable claims were serious allegations against well-known producer DJ Maphorisa, prompting discussions and debates among fans and industry insiders alike.

Mashego’s emotional outbursts included claims of feeling stranded in Nigeria and accusations regarding other artists’ clandestine activities and their supposed ties to the spiritual underworld. These revelations ignited a firestorm on social media, with divided opinions emerging; while some fans defended Mashego, others accused him of fabricating stories while under the influence of substances. Calls for investigations into Maphorisa’s alleged exploitative practices have also surfaced, as this isn’t the first instance of an artist bringing claims against him.

In the wake of the accusations, Maphorisa’s peers, including Tosh and Young Stunna, rose to his defence, refuting the claims and emphasising his commitment to uplifting emerging artists within the industry.

Following the incident involving Mashego, local media reports indicate that he was subsequently taken to a hospital for a medical evaluation after one of the individuals he allegedly assaulted reported the incident to the police. Investigations into the matter are currently ongoing,
