Kaizer Chiefs ordered to play next league match behind closed doors

Kaizer Chiefs have been ordered to play their DSTV Premiership match against Cape Town Spurs behind closed doors on 8 November at FNB Stadium after they were again found guilty of spectator misbehaviour.

Premier Soccer League (PSL) Prosecutor Zola Majavu confirmed that the punishment was in response to club supporters throwing missiles and various projectiles directed at their technical team, to voice their displeasure following poor results.

This happened on three separate occasions within two months this season.

In the matter at hand, Amakhosi fans pelted former head coach Molefi Ntseki with objects after they were knocked out of the Carling Black Label Knockout by AmaZulu at FNB Stadium on 21 October.

“I can confirm that earlier this morning Kaizer Chiefs Football Club appeared before the PSL Disciplinary Committee to answer to further charges of misconduct relating to spectator misbehaviour, as a result of the tilting of missiles and various projectiles directed at their technical team in an attempt to voice their displeasure about the results. They were served with a charge sheet, and they appeared before the DC, where they pleaded guilty, and they were subsequently found guilty as charged,” said Majavu.

Majavu confirmed that Chiefs must play their home game against Spurs without any fans inside the stadium, while another offence of the same nature would result in playing the following match at a neutral venue.

“The lockout that was suspended is now brought into operation and will be in reference to the next match pencilled in for the 8th of November 2023. The R50 000 that was suspended is now effective immediately. Regarding the current transgression, they were fined a monetary fine of R300 000. Which is wholly suspended for another period of six months, on condition that they are not found guilty of the same offence,” Majavu added.

Chiefs have also been fined R300 000, but the amount is suspended for six months on condition that no other incident happens during that period.

The club has since parted ways with Ntseki and roped in Cavin Johnson as interim head coach.
